All of our four Bordeaux varieties come together in this easy-going blend. All own-rooted and cane
pruned, Merlot and Malbec majestically sweep down an east-west swale, while Cabernet Franc and
Cabernet Sauvignon march north-south in the ancient rocky soils of the southeast corner of the estate.
2013 was bountiful and beautiful. A return to “normal” with warm and even temperatures throughout
the growing season, short-lived heat spikes and cool evenings in the summer months. The result was
early seed ripening, beautiful stem lignification and superb balance. We started picking the red
Bordeaux grapes with Malbec on October 8th and finished with Cabernet Franc on Halloween - a treat!
All four varietals were fermented and aged separately using about 20% new French oak barrels for 30
months. The most approachable barrels were chosen and a blend determined, returned to barrel to
“marry” as a blend, then filtered and bottled under a screwtop finish May 2016.
